Welcome to Research week! October 17 - 21, 2022
Curious about research? Want to know what other students are working on, and how they got started? Want to hear from students who have pursued research in the past? Need advice about how to develop a research question or about how to find funding for a research project!
Join URF throughout the week to learn more about the undergraduate research, the opportunities available, funding. and the resources and support available to you in seeking and securing a research position! The sessions this week are meant to build upon one another (they don't repeat!), but you do not need to attend one session in order to attend others.
- Join Undergraduate Research and Fellowships advisers for a conversation about research opportunities available to undergraduates both on campus and beyond! In this session, we will discuss ways to identify opportunities of interest, reaching out to potential research mentors/supervisors, and the resources available to you in developing a strong, compelling research proposal. Recommended for students of all years. No RSVP required. This session will not be recorded.
- Are you interested in pursuing undergraduate research? Not sure where to start? Curious how your peers began their own research journey, or how they approach faculty to discuss research opportunities? Join the Rose Research Fellows for an open conversation exploring and discussing how they have engaged in research during their time at Columbia (and, perhaps how they hope to engage beyond Columbia!) Topics include securing a research assistantship, finding a mentor, defining a topic of interest, exploring programs of interest, and more! (And, to learn more about the Rose Fellowship program, this year's Fellows, and their research interests, see here: https://urf.columbia.edu/content/columbia-college-rose-research-ambassad...). No RSVP necessary. This session will not be recorded.
Each year undergraduate students of Columbia University are invited to present their research in poster format at a symposium held during the Fall semester. Originally started as an event to showcase the science research of the Columbia College Rabi Scholars, the symposium now includes research projects from all disciplines and students from all undergraduate schools! Please feel free to stop into the Symposium to learn more about what your peers' researched, contributed to, and learned this summer through their individual research endeavors, as well as perhaps learn more about the opportunities to engage in research should you wish to do so!
