Support for doctoral studies in a variety of fields with the goal of advancing a free society

The Institute of Humane Studies PhD Scholarship awards graduate students and outstanding undergraduates embarking on “liberty-advancing careers in ideas.” These fellowships support study in a variety of fields, including economics, philosophy, law, political science, history, and sociology.

Awards for up to $15,000 are renewable for each year of study.

The program is open to full-time and prospective graduate students, including law and MBA students. Citizens of all countries may apply, although most recipients are from the U.S., Canada, and the U.K.

HIS evaluates candidates according to three main criteria: the relevance of their work to the advancement of a free society, their academic or professional performance, and their potential for success in their chosen field.
