Taiwan-United States Alliance Ambassador Summer Scholarships

Term: Summer

Provides funding for Mandarin language and Taiwanese culture at the National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan

The Taiwan-United States Sister Relations Alliance (TUSA) offers Ambassador Summer Scholarships to American undergraduate and graduate students for two-month immersion courses in the Mandarin language and Taiwanese culture at the National Cheng Kung University’s Chinese Language Center. Each scholarship covers tuition, housing, program-related expenses, and basic accident and health insurance. Scholars receive a stipend of NT$25,000 per month.

Ideal applicants are U.S. citizens who neither hold a Taiwan passport nor claim Taiwanese or Chinese heritage. All applicants must be enrolled full-time at U.S. colleges or universities and maintaining a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a four-point scale. Students at all levels of Mandarin proficiency are encouraged to apply—there is no requirement for previous Mandarin language experience. Eagerness to explore Taiwanese language and culture is an important selection criterion, as is commitment to serving as a goodwill ambassador between Taiwan and the U.S.
