Harriman 2021 Undergraduate Summer Research Fellowships

Call for undergraduate applicants!

The Harriman Institute Undergraduate Summer Research Fellowship for summer 2021 will provide up to $3,000 per student to support an individual independent research project connected to the study of Russia, Eurasia, or Eastern Europe. The research project may NOT include travel due to the Columbia University’s travel restrictions for undergraduates.

Eligibility: Applicants must be currently enrolled sophomores or juniors at Columbia College, Barnard College, Columbia School of General Studies, or SEAS. Seniors and recent graduates are not eligible.

Application Requirements & Instructions

Application requirements:
  • Proposal - (two-page max.) Please include a description of your planned research project.
  • Itemized budget – Please note that these fellowships are limited to $3,000.
  • Curriculum vitae/résumé – You must include information on your academic standing, as well as your Columbia PID number.
  • One confidential letter of recommendation from a Columbia faculty member (sent under separate cover by the recommender) is required.

Instructions to Submit:
Application materials should be emailed in a single message (except for the confidential recommendation letter, which should be emailed directly by the recommender) with the subject “Undergraduate Summer Research Fellowship” to Xan Faber, xlf2101@columbia.edu.
Please send all documents as PDFs. N.B. Fellowship recipients will be required to submit a brief trip report within six weeks of their return, and may be asked to meet with Harriman donors supporting this fellowship.
