Funding for graduate study in Japan

The Young Leaders’ Program (YLP) aims to contribute to cultivate future national leaders in Asian and other countries, to contribute to establish friendly relationship among various countries and to improve policy planning activities by forming a network among national leaders through deepening their understanding of Japan. The YLP is one of the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship Programs.

To apply for the YLP Program, applicants should follow the directions provided by their graduate program of choice. Only specific graduate programs are supported by the YLP program each year; these programs can be found on the MEXT website.

In 2026-2027, the eligible areas of study were: School of Government, School of Local Government, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, and Law.
