The fellowship supports students from the four Quad countries – Australia, India, Japan, and the United States and expanded this year to include sponsorship of students from Southeast Asian countries. For the 2024 fellowship, the program has selected 50 STEM students pursuing Master's and Doctoral degrees in the United States.
Quang Vu Dao, CC '20, is currently a third-year PhD student in Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University. Originally from Vietnam, Quang earned a BA in Math & Computer Science from Columbia College and an MS in Math from the University of Michigan. He is passionate about math and computer science outreach to high school and undergraduate students, both in the US and in Vietnam.
Quang works on ensuring the security of zero-knowledge proof systems in practical deployments, and designing new cryptographic primitives that are resilient to large quantum computers. His research has won a Distinguished Paper Award from IEEE Security & Privacy, and a Best Junior Paper Award from CRYPTO. Ultimately, Quang hopes to build a future in which people have greater control over their personal data and can trust the integrity of their digital interactions.
Columbia undergraduate students interested in learning more about the Quad Fellowship and other fellowship programs are encouraged to connect with advisors at Undergraduate Research and Fellowships.
