The Insight Fellowship Program helps exceptional individuals develop their own conflict management skills by working within local or international non-profits of their choice. Each year-long Fellowship begins with a period of training and development before the fellow begins three global placements through which they share the best in conflict management theory and skills.
The Insight Fellowship Program was created in 2005 to foster a community of global-minded individuals prepared to manage conflict effectively and contribute to their local, national, and international communities. To promote these goals, the Insight Collaborative awards one-year fellowships to exceptional individuals to study and promote effective conflict management, make international humanitarian contributions, and pursue self-reflection and personal development through a series of placements in the U.S. and overseas.
Fellows begin their tenure in the USA, where they attend workshops and advance their understanding of effective communication, mediation, and negotiation. The following nine months are divided into three foreign placements proposed and arranged by the fellow in collaboration with Insight Collaborative.
Each fellowship provides a living stipend to cover expenses through the four placements. Each fellow is required to repay this through individual fundraising efforts, thus regenerating the funds to support his or her successor. Insight believes this “pay forward” approach instills the values of sustainability and nonprofit entrepreneurship.
Candidates must have graduated from an accredited college or university by the time the fellowship begins, be fluent in English, be able to work for twelve months from the start of the fellowship, and be dedicated to fulfilling the goals of the fellowship.
Applicants are judged on the strength of their applications and on their personal achievements, character, and abilities. Experience related to the study or practice of conflict management or alternative dispute resolution is preferred, but not required. Insight Fellows must have strong academic and extracurricular portfolios.
