Please note: Due to the ongoing pandemic, the scholarship program is suspended for the time being. The U.S.-Japan Bridging Foundation is hopeful that they can resume the program for Fall 2021, but a decision will not be made until January 2021. We will update information here as soon as we are able to do so.
Supported by donations to the U.S.-Japan Bridging Foundation, Bridging Scholarships support U.S. undergraduate students pursuing a semester or academic year of study abroad in Japan. Scholarships provide $2,500 to recipients on semester-long programs and $4,000 to recipients on academic year programs. These stipends are intended to provide for travel and living expenses and assume that recipients will be responsible for tuition payments. Students proposing summer study in Japan are not eligible for support.
Undergraduate students majoring in any field of study are eligible to apply for these scholarships. Previous Japanese language study is not a prerequisite. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and must be enrolled as undergraduates in a college or university in the U.S. before and during the time they are studying abroad.
