Summer internship program in Germany for students in biology, chemistry, physics, earth sciences and engineering

The DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst, or German Academic Exchange Service) Research Internships in Science and Engineering (RISE) program is a summer internship program for undergraduates in biology, chemistry, physics, earth sciences, and engineering. These undergraduates work with research groups at universities and top research institutions across Germany for a period of two to three months during the summer. The working language of all participating research groups is English.

All scholarship holders receive stipends from the DAAD to help cover living and travel expenses, while partner universities and research institutes provide housing assistance. DAAD also assists with visas for U.S. and Canadian students.

Undergraduate students from the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom are eligible for RISE. The application process asks candidates to apply for specific placements based on their interests and skills. DAAD’s database of RISE opportunities usually opens November 1 each year, where interested candidates can search all offered internship positions, then apply for up to three projects.
