Need-based scholarships for students actively working for peace and justice

Davis-Putter Scholarships support students who are actively working for peace and justice. These need-based scholarships are awarded to those able to do academic work at the university level and who are part of the progressive movement on their campuses and in their communities.

The maximum individual grant is $10,000, although grants may be considerably smaller depending on each recipient’s circumstances and the amount of funding available.

Applicants must be living in the United States and planning to enroll in (or already be attending) a college, university, or graduate school in the U.S., for credit, in order to apply. Financial need is a consideration, and candidates will be asked to submit evidence of their need in their applications.

The first and most important qualification for a Davis-Putter Scholarship is active participation in struggles for civil rights, economic justice, international solidarity, or other progressive issues. There is also a strong preference for grantees who plan to stay in the U.S. to work on such issues after completing their degrees.

All our funds come from the contributions of individual donors – there is no endowment. The Fund depends entirely on the generosity of people like you to support a new generation of progressive students. The number of grants we are able to make and the size of each grant is directly related to the financial support we receive each year. The maximum grant available from the Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund is $10,000 per year (from July 1 through June 30). Grants are disbursed to cover each separate semester, quarter or term during which the grantee is attending school.
