The Fulbright-MITACS Globalink is intended for US Students interested in coming to Canada to undertake advanced research projects for 10 to 12 weeks (between May and August) in their area of interest. Projects will be drawn from a broad cross-section of research topics covering all academic disciplines and students will be placed with a university research project and undertake research projects under the supervision of a professor. Students will be placed at a Canadian University and given the opportunity to take part in professional training as well as be provided with extensive opportunities for cultural, social, and recreational experiences.
Students who participate in this program will have access to the prestigious worldwide Fulbright network (the Globalink program will not impact the eligibility to apply for Fulbright Student programs), access to Canada’s top research facilities; an opportunity to gain valuable international experience, and receive a living stipend/grant for their summer abroad.
Those who apply will be evaluated on a combination of factors, including the record of academic achievement, personal statement, current skills and interests, fit to program, letters of recommendation
Mitacs, the Fulbright's partner in this initiative, is a federally funded, national, not-for-profit organization that has designed and delivered research and training programs in Canada for some 20 years. Working with 70 universities, 6,000 companies, and both federal and provincial governments, support industrial and social innovation in Canada.
Eligibility
Participants in this program must:
- Be a United States citizen, and hold a valid U.S. passport;
- Have at least one semester remaining in their program of study as of following their summer experience (noting, this program is not suitable for 1st-year NOR last year students);
- Have a competitive grade point average;
- Be available to spend between 10 to 12 weeks in Canada between May and August;
- Preference will be given to candidates will have finished their third year in the summer they are doing their internship (thus, juniors or those with at least one semester of study remaining at Columbia following their Canadian internship experience).
