The Holthusen-Schindler Scholarship provides financial support to current Columbia College seniors and alumni/ae of the College with financial need who are continuing their education at Columbia Law School.
Award amounts and the number of awards available, but typically 4-5 scholarships of $35,000 in tuition support each are given each year.
All newly admitted and continuing Columbia Law School students who are graduates of Columbia College are eligible. Continuing students must reapply for the scholarship each year.
Selection criteria include candidates' preparation for law school, their professional and personal goals, and their readiness to take advantage of the special benefits of Columbia Law School. Each candidate’s financial need for this support is also an important consideration. For continuing law students, the committee will also factor in a candidate’s overall progress toward the degree.
Recipients of the Holthusen-Schindler must take up their fellowship for the academic year immediately following the submission of their application (that is, must plan to enroll, or remain enrolled in CLS, in the coming academic year). No deferrals will be granted.
The Holthusen-Schindler Scholarships were established through a behest from the estate of Lenore Holthusen in memory of her late husband Hen Holthusen, LAW ’17.
