Provide up to three years of support for students pursuing doctoral studies in engineering and science

National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate (NDSEG) Fellowships provide up to three years of support for American students pursuing doctoral degrees in an eligible engineering or science discipline. Fellowships are portable—recipients may attend the U.S. graduate institution of their choosing.

Each NDSEG Fellowship pays for tuition and fees at the recipient’s institution, plus a living stipend. Fellowships also provide for health insurance coverage through each recipient’s institution.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens or nationals who will have received a bachelor’s degree by the time the fellowship becomes tenable, and either at or near the beginning of their doctoral programs in engineering or science. Applicants who have received a medical degree or Ph.D. in science or engineering are not eligible.

Each application is evaluated by a panel whose expertise is in the science or engineering discipline of the applicant’s proposed doctoral degree program. Evaluation based on review of their entire application, including academic records, personal statements, recommendations, and GRE scores.
