Provide emerging playwrights with funds for a year-long residency at the Playwrights' Center in Minneapolis

The Playwrights’ Center Jerome Fellowships provide emerging American playwrights with funds and services to aid them in the development of their craft. Fellows spend a year-long residency in Minnesota receiving Center opportunities, including a workshop with a professional director, dramaturgs and actors.

Each fellowship provides a living stipend, plus funding for development support.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents, and may not have had more than two different works fully produced by professional theaters at the time of application. These are defined as productions for which the author and primary artists (actors, directors, creative collaborators) were compensated and received at least three public performances.

Following a screening for eligibility, applicants are evaluated by a panel of professional theater artists; finalists are selected by a national panel of theater artists, which chooses recipients. Selection is based on artistic excellence, potential for growth, and commitment to a vital life working in the field.
