The Mayo Clinic offers a Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships (SURF) program for students from around the U.S. to work beside both young and established scientists on a broad range of biomedical research questions at the clinic’s facilities in Rochester, Minnesota. Under the guidance of a research scientist, fellows work on their own small independent research projects for ten weeks or participate in the research of an ongoing project.
Prerequisites
You can apply for the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) if you:
- Have completed two or three years at a U.S. college or university at the time the SURF program begins
- Have a grade point average of at least 3.0 (4.0 scale)
- Are seriously considering a biomedical research career as a Ph.D. or M.D.-Ph.D.
Non-U.S. citizen applicants
International students who are attending a U.S. college or university as full-time students are eligible to apply.
Stipend
The Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) award is $6,000 for 10 weeks. From this stipend, students are responsible for their own travel, housing and meals.
