eligibility & guidelines
Grants are open to currently enrolled Columbia undergraduates—students in Columbia College, Barnard College, Columbia Engineering and the School of General Studies are eligible. Candidates should have taken at least two courses in East Asian studies before applying and must be maintaining a GPA of at least 3.5. Selection criteria include academic excellence, demonstrated interest in East Asia, and demonstrated commitment to incorporating East Asia into long-term academic or professional career goals.
Please note, application for multiple grants and fellowships are allowed and one set of Columbia transcripts and reference letters may be submitted for application to multiple grants and fellowships (Exception: Applications for FLAS, as they are submitted separately, must include a complete set of application materials).
The Weatherhead East Asian Institute offers funding for research, language acquisition, unpaid internships, and dissertation write-up during the summer and academic year to selected Columbia undergraduate and graduate students committed to professional and academic engagement with East and Southeast Asia. Eligibility varies depending on the particular funding opportunity.
