CC’22 Alum Arman Husein Selected for Yenching Scholarship

Ahmad Arman Al-bin Sakir Husein, CC’22, has been pre-admitted as an incoming Yenching Scholar at Peking University. Arman is among 124 scholars selected for pre-admission to the Yenching Academy, a fully funded, interdisciplinary master’s program in China Studies that brings together emerging leaders from diverse fields around the world to examine China’s evolving role in the global community at Peking Unviersity in Beijing.

Arman Husein, CC’22, selected for pre-admission to the Yenching Academy at Peking University

Originally from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Arman graduated from Columbia College with a degree in economics and a concentration in history, where he focused on the intersection of markets, culture, and development. During his time at Columbia, he served as a teaching assistant in the Department of Economics and was actively involved in student initiatives promoting youth development and cross-cultural engagement.
Following his undergraduate studies, Arman earned an MSc in Economics for Development from the University of Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar. He has since worked in strategy and management consulting across Southeast Asia, focusing on financial services and digital ecosystems. In addition to his professional work, he is a Research Fellow at the Oxford China Policy Lab, where he examines the impact of emerging technologies on cultural and creative economies, and he is also the founder of Seri Budaya, a performing arts initiative dedicated to youth empowerment and cultural preservation through traditional Malay dance.

At the Yenching Academy, Arman plans to study China’s development model, with a particular focus on the creative economy and its implications for Southeast Asia.
