A program of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) seeks to expand the number of Americans studying and mastering foreign languages that are critical to national security and economic prosperity. The program offers intensive in-person language instruction and cultural enrichment designed to facilitate intensive and accelerated language acquisition. This year, Columbia is proud to have eight named recipients of the Critical Language Scholarship.
