Elif Memet, CC ’19, has been named a David Rubenstein Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School Center for Public Leadership. The scholarship funds a joint Master in Public Policy and Master in Business Administration to prepare the scholars for work in positions of influence at the intersection of business, government, and nonprofit organizations, and who are eager to address challenges in such critical areas as health care, the environment, economic development, and government.
Originally from Romania, Elif was inspired to address big questions from an early age as she witnessed her country transition rapidly to a democracy and market economy. At Columbia, Elif, an economics-mathematics major who also pursued a business concentration, conducted research on income inequality with Nobel laureate Professor Joseph Stiglitz. Since graduating, Elif has worked at Goldman Sachs and as an advisor for the Romanian government on the Council of Advisers to the Minister of Research and Innovation. At Harvard, Elif seeks to combine her interests in business and policy in order to drive economic empowerment.
