Lucy Corthell SEAS'25

Hailing from Seattle, Lucy is pursuing a double major in Earth and Environmental Engineering and Engineering Physics. Outside of the classroom, Lucy conducts research in Columbia Electrochemical Energy Center's Steingart Battery lab, investigating lithium and sodium ion thermal stability to improve battery safety. This past summer, as a Research Internships for Science and Engineering (RISE) Scholar in Germany, Lucy used QGIS and Python to map heat-health inequities. This research supported equity-focused urban planning and health strategies at the Reiner Lemoine Institut to reduce heat-related mortalities in Berlin.

As a Gaither Junior Fellow, Lucy looks forward to working in a think tank environment in Washington, D.C., learning to navigate the policymaking realm while exploring her interests at the intersection of the energy transition, public health, and climate diplomacy.
