Diogene Artiles, CC'22, Named 2025 Luce Scholar
The Luce Scholars Program is an experiential fellowship program that offers emerging leaders professional training in Asia tailored to their career aspirations and interests. Over the 13-month program, the fellows receive stipends, language training, and an individualized professional placement in Asia. Through these experiences, the program aims to forge more robust, informed, compassionate relationships across geographic borders by creating opportunities for young Americans across diverse sectors and interests to deepen their ties and understanding of the countries, cultures, and people of Asia.
From Brooklyn, New York, Diogene Artiles chose to deepen his understanding of music and language by majoring in Comparative Literature and concentrating in Portuguese and Lusophone cultures at Columbia. He brought his love for global music to WKCR, the college radio, where he showcased independent Black and Indigenous artists from around Latin America. Diogene’s engagement with community and music are connected to his academic questions, which he further fostered as a Mellon Mays Fellow and Laidlaw Scholar. Currently, Diogene is serving as an 11th Grade Program Coordinator of Enrichment Programs and Mentoring at SEO Scholars, a college-access program for underserved New York City students, of which he is also an alum.
