Columbia College Students Fund Travel to Conferences with New CC Travel Award for Presenters

This semester, the first awardees of the new Columbia College Travel Award for Presenters shared their research at conferences across the country! CC students can now apply for this funding to support travel to conferences where they are presenting their research, both domestically and internationally.

Eftychia Kotsiou CC'27 studies Mathematics and Physics. She traveled to Denver, Colorado for the APS Conference for Undergraduate Women and Gender Minorities in Physics (CU*iP) 2026. Her research posted focused on the epoxy bond performance of the International Axion Observatory, a next-generation helioscope uniquely designed to probe solar axions and axion-like particles over a broad mass range, by converting the axions into X-ray photons via a strong magnetic field.

Stanley Davis CC'26 and Chinonye Omeirondi CC'26 traveled to Boston, Massachusetts to present at the Eastern Psychological Association Conference. Stanley's presentation was entitled "Beyond PTSD: Transdiagnostic Pathways to Psychosis via Cognitive, Affective, and Personality Factors," and Chinonye's was entitled "Childhood Abuse Predicts Adult Physical Symptoms: A Multi-Study Mediation Analysis." Stanley studies Psychology, and Chinonye studies Creative Writing and Psychology.

Ari X CC'26 studies English and Ethnicity and Race Studies. Ari traveled to Nashville, Tennessee to present at the Graduate Association for African American History 2026 Conference. Ari's paper focuses on Nina Simone and Langston Hughes’ co-produced work, “Backlash Blues.” Their project examines Simone’s memorial performance of “Backlash Blues” at the Newport Jazz Festival in 1967, and seeks to trace Simone’s homage to Hughes through the archival record of their correspondences.


Columbia College students who have been invited to present their work at a conference can apply for the Columbia College Travel Award for Presenters, with four deadlines throughout the academic year: February 15, April 15, October 15, and December 15.
